JCM strains requiring co-culture<\/font><\/p>\n

\u3000The resident microbiota such as human oral and intestinal microbiota is more than we could imagine. It is composed of a wide variety of bacterial species, many of which are uncultured and unclassified bacterial species. Among the strains deposited in recent years, there are unique strains that require co-cultivation with other strain (helper strain). Fretibacterium fastidiosum<\/i> (JCM 16858T<\/sup><\/a>), isolated from the oral cavity, is a bacterial species belonging to the Synergistetes<\/i> phylum. This strain requires Fusobacterium nucleatum<\/i> subsp. nucleatum<\/i> as a helper strain. Tannerella serpentiformis<\/i> (JCM 31301<\/a>, JCM 31302<\/a> and JCM 31303T<\/sup><\/a>) is associated with human oral health. These strains require Cutibacterium<\/i> acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes<\/i> subsp. acnes<\/i>) as a helper strain. Two strains of Unidentified bacterium JCM 31632<\/a> and JCM 31633<\/a> have also been deposited as the first cultivated strain of phylotype Anaerolineae<\/i> bacterium HOT-439 belonging to the oral cavity-derived Chloroflexi<\/i> phylum. These strains require Fusobacterium nucleatum<\/i> subsp. polymorphum<\/i> as a helper strain. It is expected that the symbiotic mechanism of microbiota will be unraveled by further isolating and culturing strains requiring co-culture in the future.
